Case study

Electrical substation — closed ring deployment

Multi-tube stacked barrier was laid as a closed continuous loop encircling the substation equipment, with a second double-stacked line run along an adjoining building wall and propped on angled wooden A-frames. Filenames in the folder date the work to September 2019.

Risk profile
Regional flooding surrounding an unattended switchyard, where transformer and switchgear inundation means an outage that spreads well beyond the site boundary.

The ring is closed: no gap in the run around the yard.

What the photographs show

The site as it stood.

Aerial photographs show brown floodwater completely surrounding the installation while the gravel inside the ring stays dry. The loop is closed with no gap in the run. The utility operator, exact peak water depth and any seepage handling are not visible in the photographs and are not asserted here.

Scope of work

  • Closed continuous barrier ring around transformers and switchgear
  • Multi-tube stacking for protection height against surrounding floodwater
  • Second double-stacked line along an adjoining building wall
  • Aerial documentation of the completed ring from above
  • Stacked orange water-filled barrier tubes running in a line across a substation site
Multi-tube stack at ground level along the protection line.
  • Brown floodwater surrounding an electrical substation held back by a barrier ring
Floodwater right up to the outside of the line.

What is still open on this project

Photographs show a deployment. They do not show permission, dates or measured results. Those items are listed here and published the moment the client confirms them.

Open items

  • Permission to name the utility operator and the site
  • Peak water depth and how long the ring held
  • Whether seepage management or pumping was required
  • The dates shown are working placeholders, not a confirmed deployment record.
